Companies aren’t logos, or buildings, or car brands. Companies are made of people, and the people who make up Holden come from all walks of life. We wouldn’t have it any other way.
In 2017, we launched Holden Plus – our dedicated employee resources group. Holden Plus provides an important link between our LGBT+ employees and Holden’s leadership to identify opportunities, generate ideas and deliver practical initiatives to enhance inclusion for our LGBT+ employees and build stronger links between Holden and the community.
In 2017, our motorcade of unmissable rainbow Colorado’s led the parade carrying this year’s official Mardi Gras Ambassadors, while our fleet of Astra Mardi Cars took to the streets offering free rides to the biggest party of the year and treating revellers to some car karaoke! Our sponsorship certainly captured people’s attention and it gave us the chance to publicly reinforce our values.
In 2016, Holden signed up in support of the Australian Marriage Equality campaign, standing proudly beside the other Australian businesses calling for marriage equality – sooner not later.
…and we had a blast! We also surveyed lots of people about how we can better reflect the needs, wants and wishes of the LGBT+ community. For every completed survey, we donated $20 to Australian Marriage Equality and ultimately handed over a cheque for $10,000.
*We first saw this acronym used by MY LGBT PLUS, a community support group from California, whose aim is to ensure they are inclusive of all identities and no one is left out. We love it, and we’ve adopted their approach in celebrating the continuing ways people define themselves. And yes, straight allies are included in our LGBT+ acronym!
