GM Holden Environment - Programs
Environment Protection Authority Victoria - Industry Greenhouse Program
Holden Engine Operations reported a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions of 11,597 tonnes of CO2 emissions for the period 2004-2006 compared with 2003, achieved through a variety of methods.
- Computerised systems were installed to monitor energy efficiency of furnaces and compressed air distribution plants. Improved management and streamlining of compressed air systems alone accounted for 75 per cent of greenhouse gas emission reductions.
- Installation of a variable speed drive on a cooling water circulation pump resulted in greenhouse gas emission reductions of almost 580 tonnes of CO2.
- Modifications and upgrades to component casting operations achieved a reduction of almost 834 tonnes of CO2 in foundry greenhouse gas emissions.
- Improved management of building heating, sensor installation and other lighting efficiencies and modifications to cafeteria systems also contributed to the energy reduction savings.
