Production & Trades

Production staff and qualified tradespeople are essential to the ongoing success of Holden manufacturing operations. These roles form the core business for Holden, producing vehicles and engines for local and export markets. Trades people are required across all areas of the business, not only in production but also in testing and engineering functions. Some of the trades that are critical to our business include motor mechanics, electricians, instrumentation technicians, fitters and turners, welders and toolmakers.

Production staff are located at Holden's Engine Operations, Fishermans Bend, Victoria, the Holden Vehicle Operations facility located in Elizabeth, South Australia and also at our National Distribution Centre, known as Holden Service Parts Organisation located at Dandenong, Victoria.

About Our Operations

Holden’s Vehicle Operations (HVO)

Holden's Vehicle Operations, based in Elizabeth South Australia,is where the top-selling Commodore and Cruze are brought to life. Our highly-skilled workforce and our innovative and flexible operations currently build 51 models in left-hand and right-hand drive, across two platforms in six body styles.

Home to the iconic Commodore and more recently the top-selling Cruze, a coil of steel is where the manufacturing begins at Holden Vehicle Operations. Before the assembly is to take place, panels are pressed in our press and metal assembly operation and plastics are moulded at our plastic operations. These components are then all brought together in our state of the art assembly operations.

The assembly commences in our high-tech body shops. It is here that the metal frame of the car is made; the cars then proceed to our advanced paint shop where it is given its colour and shine, through to the flexible assembly line where operators bring the remainder of the car together. Once the car ticks all the boxes in Holden’s stringent quality test the car farewells the plant heading to customers in Australia and around the world.

Supporting our advanced vehicle manufacturing operation at the plant is a variety of engineers, program managers, IT and HR managers, logistics coordinators, finance professionals, skilled trades people and production workers all working together to ensure we are producing the best cars for Australia and the world.
