GM Holden Environment - Case Studies
Overview
Business Plan Deployment
GM Holden's approach to environmental matters is in accordance with the policies and programs of its parent company, General Motors Co.
Policies relating to GM Holden vehicle and engine manufacturing operations are guided by a Business Plan Deployment (BDP) process, a continuous improvement element of GM's Global Manufacturing System.
'Environment' is formally included into BPD as a business goal category with a principal focus on energy, water and waste as operating performance indicators.
BPD formalises GM Holden's commitment to environmental performance improvement.
It is cascaded through all organisational levels and enables GM Holden to set annual targets, integrate plans and remain focused to achieve company-wide environmental goals.
Company, plant and unit goals are regularly communicated to GM Holden employees and plans are posted in prominent locations following a 'Plan, Do, Check, Act' format.
GM 2100 - Internet-based data reporting
GM Holden environmental managers at major facilities report data on utilities use (gas, water electricity) via GM2100, GM's internet-based solution for managing worldwide utilities data.
The system is used to receive, validate and store data for utilities use. It verifies billing accuracy against internal meter readings and helps GM Holden to monitor and manage utility usage and cost through a variety of common tools and reports.
The GM2100 system provides utility and related information instantly to users regardless of geographical, time-zone or language barriers. In addition, standardised reporting allows information to be viewed for multiple sites and be easily understood.
